September 2010

Welcome Letter

As the scarlet and gray begins to come out all over Columbus, so will the pink. Komen Columbus supporters and advocates will soon be seen all over town running, reading and attending events as we look forward to a busy fall.

With September comes the release of Promise Me, Susan G. Komen for the Cure founder Nancy G. Brinker’s inspirational story of how a promise made to a dying sister ignited the global breast cancer movement. The New Albany Walking Classic on September 12 will help hundreds of Central Ohioans to work off stress and stay fit while others will take advantage of Massage Envy Day on September 14 to relax.

Read ahead for all the latest Komen Columbus news and event updates.

Komen Columbus Race for the Cure®

Planning for the May 14, 2011 Race for the Cure begins months in advance. It’s not easy coordinating an event for 50,000 people and we need lots of help to do so. The Race Planning Committee, the group of hard-working volunteers who coordinate the logistics and main activities at the Race, will begin meeting in October to get things ready for May 2011.

If you’re interested in getting involved with this group, please contact us today.

Watch for a special Race registration announcement in the October eNewsletter!

Also make sure to check out our Flickr album for all 2010 pictures.

Help Hydrate Marathon for the Cure Participants

The Inaugural Marathon for the Cure team has been working hard, training and fundraising in anticipation for the Columbus Marathon on Sunday, October 17, and now we need your help to cheer them on!

The Columbus Marathon for the Cure Team will be hosting the water distribution at Mile 2 (water stop B) of the Columbus Marathon on October 17 from 6-9:30 a.m. We need at least 50 excited volunteers to pass out water to walkers and runners. Volunteers can look forward to motivating marathon participants in official Columbus Marathon garb (hats and shirts), and will receive a pink bandana to ‘pink up’ the water stop! As a volunteer, you will be able to keep enthusiasm going with a 30-day membership to Urban Active on behalf of the Columbus Marathon. Haven’t convinced you yet? Volunteers are also invited to join in a post race celebration at Park Street Patio later that day.

Sign up to show your support and gain a front row view to all the action! Email the Marathon for the Cure team captain with any questions.
