Welcome Letter
This October marks the 26th anniversary of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time that people across the world pause to recognize or honor the breast cancer survivors they have known, or to support others currently battling the disease. There are lots of ways to get involved in the fight against breast cancer this month, and we hope you’ll consider taking part in Boot Breast Cancer Night, Condos for the Cure or Hockey Fights Cancer, just to name a few of the events happening in Columbus in the next couple of weeks.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has come a long way in those 25 years, including becoming the world’s largest breast cancer organization in the world. Here’s a snapshot of how the organization has grown, thanks to the support of our thousands of dedicated and motivated volunteers.
- Since its inception in 1982 and thanks to millions of generous donors, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has invested more than $1.5 billion for research, education and health services. Donate today and join the fight.
- In October of 1983, the Race for the Cure was held for the first time in Dallas, Texas, where 800 people participated. (The 18th Annual Race for the Cure in Columbus had 50,396 participants.)
- In 2010, Susan G. Komen for the Cure received Charity Navigator’s highest rating – four stars – for the fourth consecutive year.
Thanks for your continued support throughout the entire year and during National Breast Cancer Awarenss Month.
Becca, Beth, Jill, Katie, Megan and Natalie The Staff of Komen Columbus
