Oncology on Canvas™: Expressions of a Cancer Journey
Lilly USA and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) invite those touched by cancer in the US and Puerto Rico to submit their entries to the 2010 Oncology on Canvas™: Expressions of a Cancer Journey Art Competition and Exhibition, by June 30.

The competition invites individuals touched by cancer to express through art and narrative the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journeys meaning. You don’t have to be a professional artist or writer – it’s the sharing of the journey that counts. By participating in the competition, you can help inspire others along the way. Winners select their favorite cancer charities to receive their prize donations. Following the competition, much of the artwork will embark on a nationwide tour.

Completed entries need to be postmarked by June 30, 2010. To learn more about Lilly Oncology on Canvas, download an entry packet or register online please visit lillyoncologyoncanvas.com. Please send questions by email to artdirector@mylooc.com or call (866) 991-5662.

Grantee Spotlight

Breast Health Education and Screening for Asian Women

Dr. Cora Munoz and Manju Sankarappa work year-round to provide culturally sensitive breast health education and screening services to Asian women in Central Ohio. Through a partnership with the Columbus Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (CCONS) and the nursing students at Capital University, the BHESAW program utilizes Community Health Advocates to reach hundreds of women each year with interpretation services, mobile mammography and education that empowers them and increases their personal awareness of their risk for breast cancer.

Many of the BHESAW events are held at familiar neighborhood locations, like the Sunflower Chinese Restaurant in Dublin, but their most successful event each year is the Asian Festival—a gathering of many different Asian ethnicities and a cultural extravaganza. The festival allows the group to reach Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Bhutanese, Laotian, Asian Indian, Filipino, Nepalese, Vietnamese, and Cambodian women all at the same place. This year, with the help of the Mount Carmel Women’s Health Center mobile unit, the program was able to provide more than 60 women with free screenings at the two-day event.

For more information on the Breast Health Education and Screening for Asian Women Program, contact Manju Sankarappa or Dr. Cora Munoz.
