Volunteer Spotlight

Introducing: The Communications Committee

The Communications Committee (also known as CommComm) is a small committee that works to promote the message and the mission of Komen Columbus throughout the community. The CommComm uses new media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well as traditional media outlets like local news and signage to reach out to our 30-county service area in central and southeastern Ohio. The Committee focuses on clear communication between the community and the affiliate, as well as coordinating the national reach of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This Committee is fortunate to have many public relations, marketing and media professionals lending their expertise to guide the group.

While the Communications Committee is involved with Komen activities year-round, springtime was all about promoting the Race for the Cure. A few members of the committee led the Pink It Up efforts, turning everything pink, from the streets of downtown to local businesses to Facebook pages. The CommComm also organized outreach and distribution of race materials and information to outlying counties within the Komen Columbus service area. Following the Race for the Cure, committee members are now working on creative recycling ideas for the large promotional and sponsoring banners that were used along the race course.

The most recent addition to the Communications Committee is a new flip-cam! Your chance to participate in our viral video contest will be coming this summer. We know that the fight against breast cancer affects everyone and we want you to voice what this fight means to you. Stay tuned for more information on where the camera will be shooting, including at the Ohio State Fair and other summer events.

The CommComm meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. to enjoy coffee and breakfast at a local café. Please contact us for more information on joining the group.
