Volunteer Spotlight

Patient assistance programs, gas vouchers, help hotlines and individual education programs among other crucial projects occur year-round thanks to Komen Columbus-funded community health grants.

This time of year the Komen Columbus office and Grants Committee are busy reviewing the grant proposals submitted for funding in 2010-2011. Our grants cycle operates from April 1st through March 31st each year and we have to determine which of these programs are most deserving of the funds we raise.

The grant review process relies on dozens of external, volunteer reviewers with non-profit management, education, healthcare, legal, accounting and grant writing expertise. Each reviewer is assigned several proposals to “score” before the rankings are reviewed by our Grants Committee.

Funding decisions are based on the Affiliate’s priorities, strength of the proposal and anticipated impact or success of the program in our service area.

We are very thankful for all of the hard work our grant reviewers and committee do for us—this process is incredibly important to the affiliate and we couldn’t make a difference without you!

We look forward to announcing our new 2010-2011 Grantee Programs in the coming months and celebrating the lives they’ll save throughout the year!
